Took care of a bunch of UCLA stuff today, signed up for orientation, accepted scholarships, set up my online payment account, and submitted this as my Bruin Card ID photo.
18 days until graduation. Almost there.

Yesterday, I took pictures of a event called Shop With a Cop. Well-behaved elementary school kids get $125 in Walmart gift cards, and cops take them Christmas shopping and out to breakfast. Granada Leadership students help the officers communicate with the kids and figure out what to buy for their friends and family.
When the kids all went over by at least $30 or $40 each, Walmart paid the balance. And Emil Villa’s paid for breakfast. Also, it was really nice to see officers in a more human element, helping kids pick out gifts and wrapping presents with them. When we were at breakfast, I ended up discussing the progression of hip hop with Officer Cabral, and we- surprisingly enough- talked about MBL’s “Drop” music video.
Also, when we were having breakfast, one of the little elementary school kids drew me a portrait. With what appears to be flattering facial hair.
All in all, it was a great event. Being around so much generosity and kindness, and excited little kids, definitely makes it feel like Christmas.
